      Are Solid Logs used?

The logs are manufactured from Pinus Radiata, a slow growing species from the Knysna plantations in South Africa and are constructed as semi-solid exterior wall units.

The choice is normally between these two available options - 62mm or 50mm (our standard) logs.

Solid logs are available, should that be your preference.

Are the houses approved by municipalities and local authorities?
      • Timber structures to SABS 082/2000 are accepted by all South African municipalities and local authorities. Like any other building, it has to comply to all regulations and approvals. Work on site can not proceed without all the correct paperwork.
      • For alterations and additions on existing stands, we recommend that you check your Title Deed for stipulations.
      • Generally, a unit smaller than 55m2 is regarded as a granny/garden flat. For larger units you have to apply for a second dwelling, with the time and admin around this process.
      • Properties close to dams and rivers normally need land surveying to determine flood lines, which in turn will determine final placement of the building.

Are the houses waterproof and fire tested?

Timber used is fire tested and approved for water penetration and complies to SANS 10082:2007.

We normally try to remind our customers that building a home is a great undertaking and things will come along that will slow down progress from time to time. How well you deal with those times will determine the final product. Remember a few months to build a dream home is really a short period for the lifetime of memories it will give you back.
A kit log home allows the owner to participate in the building to whatever extent he or she wishes to, and to effectively save money with every task and item required.

How does it work and how long does construction take?

On accepting a written quotation, and signing of a contract, building plans are prepared and approved.

The construction items are pre-manufactured in our factory in Waltloo, Pretoria and transported to the building site for erection by a LOGS&CONCEPTS construction team. Depending on the size of the unit, we allow 2 - 4 weeks for pre-manufacturing of a standard design.

Construction time depends on the size of the project and can take as little as 3 weeks for a small unit.

Is the construction safe from termite infestation?

Logs and other timber used as structural components are pressure treated in vacuum cylinders with TBTO and CCA against decay and all insects, including termites, according to SANS standards and requirements.

      Lifespan of a Timber Home

      • Wood is a natural insulator - cells in the wood fibre provide one of the best forms of insulation from either heat or cold. Log homes are cool in summer and warm in winter.
      • Log homes are a recyclable and reusable product with an infinite lifespan and structural integrity. A well-built timberhome will last as long as any brick&mortar house. There are log structures in Europe that are hundreds of years old!
      • Wood is aesthetically pleasing - log homes are nature at its best. You'll feel at peace with nature in your 'living home', with its' natural warmth and unique atmosphere.
